UnFinished Orphans, UFO’s
Posted on September 30, 2019 by Beth MarkelSo it’s been a really busy month, but my focus has been finishing projects. We all have UFO’s, some large, some small, or some project started at a retreat or workshop with good intentions of, “I’ll finish it when I get home.” Then that project, or that set of blocks, gets put on a shelf and remains untouched. My goal has been to unpack, (sometimes) wash and press those projects, and turn them into baby quilts. It’s been pretty rewarding, as I now have 4 completed and 2 at the long-arm quilters. Here’s a sample:

It was nice, but the border was boring so I added a little ‘sumpin’ sumpin’ and I think made it more fun!
While cleaning out my studio, I came across 3 other projects that are UFO’s which I will continue to work on and finish. A friend of mine recently suggested that the blocks I do not love could be over-dyed with other colors, and I may try that. Great suggestion, thank you!
While we still have nice weather in Michigan, I also played with ice dyes again – something I have not done for a while. It’s a fun and interesting project, although I never really duplicate what I’m trying to match. This was true for a piece that turned out fun, but not exactly what I was expecting! This is a piece that is roughly 12″ x 18″ with 3 colors, red, yellow, and purple.
OK, that’s the update. Make something creative and beautiful today!
Cheers,
Beth
